Law Offices of Heath D. Harte Comments on Recent Article about Ex-Convicts Who Profit from their Criminal Activity by Booking Speaking Engagements

(PRWEB) July 17, 2014

Heath D. Harte, an attorney-at-law with over twenty-five years of experience practicing in Connecticut and New York, released a statement today commenting on a recent article that highlights the increase in ex-convicts who are receiving payment for lectures and appearances to teach lawyers and other professionals about their experiences.

The recent ABAJournal article* highlights the example of former Enron CFO, Andrew Fastow, who pled guilty to conspiracy to commit wire and securities fraud in 2004. Last year, Fastow spoke to the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. The article also mentions other white-collar convicted criminals who have financially benefitted from speaking engagements, including Scott London (formerly of KPMG, convicted of insider trading), and Humberto Aguilar (a former attorney who went to prison for money laundering). London and Aguilar have had numerous speaking engagements and appearances. Although the ACFE does not make direct payments to ex-cons, the article explains that the speakers can still profit from the increased visibility. Augilar, for example, said he often books appearances that earn $ 5,000-6,000 per appearance as an expert witness and a consultant on how to prevent these crimes.

Heath D. Harte believes this trend in profiting off of having a criminal past is wrong, and that changes should be made so that ex-cons do not continue to profit from their crimes. “White collar crime should NOT pay,” he states. “Being convicted of fraud appears to open many doors to lucrative speaking engagements. If murderers cannot receive payment or profit for their story, similar legislation should be applied to other ex-convicts that are profiting from their illegal activities.”

Trucking Accident Injuries And Death Scrutinized By The Jones Firm In Recent Article

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) July 11, 2014

The Jones Firm, a law firm based out of Bellevue that specializes in cases regarding personal injury and wrongful death, have years of experience handling cases involving heavy trucks.

This classification includes ballast tractors, cement mixer trucks, mobile crane trucks, dump trucks, garbage trucks, log carriers, refrigeration trucks, and semi-trailer trucks.

With so many heavy trucks on our highways, it’s no wonder that Washington has over 2,500 heavy truck accidents per year.

Trucking accident claims are complex,” the Jones Firm says, “involving many variables and often multiple parties, and individuals will require the expertise of an attorney skilled in handling these difficult cases.”

Contact the Jones Firm directly if you have suffered injury or lost a family member in a traffic collision involving heavy trucks: http://www.bellevuetrialattorney.com/

Their recently released article explains that trucking companies are usually very well-funded and aggressively well-defended.

In addition, truck accident litigation often involves testimony of expert witnesses specializing in fields like accident reconstruction, road or mechanical engineering, medicine, rehabilitative therapy and life care planning. Because of this, acquiring the compensation deserved can be difficult and requires a well-seasoned attorney.

The Jones Firm asserts that meticulous investigation of physical evidence and data is imperative in establishing an effective case in court. Responsible parties might include the trucking company, truck owner, mechanic, loader or parts manufacturer, or others. Thorough personal injury or wrongful death investigations should reveal any third party responsibility.

In conclusion, the Jones Firm states, “Cars are small, trucks are big, and humans are fragile. As long as there are accidents — we are here to represent the injured.”

Fear of Software Upgrades Holding Back Businesses, New Find the Edge Article Says

Manchester (PRWEB UK) 24 April 2013

Refusing to upgrade systems and software could be the ‘worst decision business owners ever make’ a new article on Find the Edge has said.

Lisa Miles, owner of Amethyst Associates Ltd, uses an article on Find the Edge to explain why failing to move with the times can hit profits hard.

Titled, ‘Why Failing to Upgrade Business Software Could Be the Worst Decision You Ever Make,’ Miles highlights the dangers associated with using multiple systems that can’t integrate or communicate.

She said: “As an example, software that lets you send out invoices or statements via email has been around for years. Despite this, many companies insist on doing it the old fashioned way.

“You only have to miss one entry so perhaps a customers address isnt updated in a single crucial location and you have a problem.”

She also identifies other issues, such as a company relying on one individual’s knowledge of how to operate a system. This is dangerous if that individual then leaves the organisation.

To combat problems like these, Miles suggests considering making changes to the core systems in the business.

She said: “You need to consider the long-term return on investment, rather than just the initial costs.

“If you do decide to take on new software, or enhance your existing system, you should be looking for a return on investment within 2 years or less this should be demonstrable and quantifiable.”

Kenny Goodman, founder of Find the Edge, said: “Taking the decision to make costly changes is rarely easy, but acting early can lead to huge savings and boosted efficiency.

“Lisa has a great deal of experience in this area, so it’s well worth listening to what she has to say.”
