Sandpoint Pilates | What Is Pilates?

Sandpoint Pilates Instructor James Eberle answer her most asked question – What is Pilates?

Sandpoint Pilates studio Future Physique Pilates is owned and operated by James Eberle. Based in Sandpoint, Idaho, James specializes in private and semi-private Pilates sessions. Pilates is a system of exercises that incorporates stretching and core strengthening. It improves balance, coordination and circulation.

Pilates was designed by Joseph Pilates, a physical-culturist born in Germany in 1883. He developed a system of exercises during the first half of the 20th century which were intended to strengthen the human mind and body. Joseph Pilates believed that mental and physical health are inter-related.

He had practiced many of the physical training regimes which were available in Germany in his youth, and it was out of this context that he developed his own work, which has clear connections with the physical culture of the late ninteenth century such as the use of specially invented apparatuses and the claim that the exercises could cure illness.

Stott Pilates is a contemporary, anatomically-based approach to Joseph Pilates’ original exercise method. It was developed with input from physical therapists and sports medicine professionals. Unlike traditional Pilates, Stott Pilates incorporates modern exercise principals, including current developments in spinal rehabilitation and performance enhancement.

Pilates is a safe and effective form of exercise. Everyone can benefit from a regular program of Pilates exercises, from elite athlete or dancer to the average couch potato. In addition, Pilates can especially be beneficial to anyone recovering from injuries or to those who would like to reduce the chance of injuries. Anyone with chronic spinal problems or instability will also find Pilates beneficial. Future Physique Pilates is Sandpoint, Idaho’s premier Pilates studio!
