Naughty Pilates – A New, Fresh, Fun Mixture of Burlesque and Pilates is Here

Naughty Pilates is a new kind of Pilates video that is geared toward a young-at-heart, hip audience that is tired of the usual, straightforward exercise videos that are currently on the market. Christine Gladney, a personal trainer and Pilates instructor from New York, who recently relocated back to her hometown of Memphis, has meshed two of her favorite pastimes to give you an entertaining and fun way to work out. She has taken the old style of Burlesque and Vaudeville and mixed it with the tried and true method developed by Joseph Pilates – to bring you Burlates.

Having been the recipient of many Pilates videos donated by various friends & family members who quickly became bored with them, Christine was inspired to find a way to make this practice fun and accessible to even the most diehard ADD sufferers. She found that many would-be Pilates devotees were intimidated by instructors with the bodies of ballerinas and the seriousness of monks, and as a practitioner of these practices herself, Christine is a firm believer in the benefits, so she made it her mission to make Pilates fun. The exercises are done with responsibility and respect to the technique, but in a way that is exciting and entertaining. They are demonstrated by real people with real flaws and real limitations with a great sense of humor.

The music is so great, the costumes are so fabulous, the scenes are so colorful and the jokes are so funny it makes you forget you are actually exercising. For example, we have:

The Roll-Up on pool tables, in cowgirl costumes, using pool cues – this exercise works the abs and stretches the spine and lower back.

The 100’s performed on a bar with martini shakers – this exercise works the abs.

The Cobra and the Cat/Cow performed on the hood of a ‘55 Cadillac parked on the banks of the

Mississippi River – this exercise works and stretches the lower back.

About the instructor:

“NO” is just not a word in Christine Gladney’s vocabulary. Although it may sound likea cliche, for her it is the gospel truth. She is a woman driven by a blind confidence that continuously opens new doors and allows her to expand and revel in her creativity. A dancer, choreographer, playwright, actor, singer, photographer and muse – Christine is a performance artist with no boundaries.

With a resume that is as varied as she is, Christine has danced on stage with Project: Motion and co-founded the theatre/dance company, New Bridge Ensemble. She fronted her own band, Sugarpush; appeared in high budget films like “The People vs. Larry Flynt” and low budget films such as “Hustle & Flow” Director Craig Brewer’s first film, “The Poor & Hungry” along with the cult classics of John Michael McCarthy. Christine co-founded Memphis’ first Burlesque troupe, Memphis Confidential and has produced, directed, choreographed and starred in countless shows.

After several years of hard starlet labor, Christine moved to New York City and begana whole new path. Studying Pilates, yoga and other healing arts, she worked as a trainer in several fitness centers including the Trump Hotel Spa, David Barton Gym, and Eastern Athletics just to name a few. She was requested by Israel’s Former Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, to check his weight lifting form and asked by Aerosmith’s Stephen Tyler to teach him her style of “dancelike” yoga. She also invented her Punk Rock Pilates classes to give her money-challenged friends a cheaper alternative to the rising price of conventional Pilates classes.

Upon returning to her hometown of Memphis, Christine finally found a way to marry all of her differing talents. Dreams are one of those things which we all experiece, but very few of us actually take the time to think about, even fewer understand, and perhaps no one understands completely.
My question:
Do the various holy books (Bible NT, OT, Quran, Vedas, Sutras, Occult texts, Kabalah, etc…) have anything to say about dreams? How about other religious or spiritual sources?

i still feel like even though dreams existence has been addressed in many of these passages, what they are hasnt really been approached…

Pilate’s wife, a foreigner in the land, was warned in a dream that her husband must prevent the persecution of Jesus. She said to Pilate: “Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him” [Matt. 27:19]

Owner and Instructor, Jennifer Pridmore who is a Dallas Resident states, My goal was to bring something unique to my county that has never existed here before. There are pilates and yoga classes taught at fitness gyms, parks, etc. but nothing can compare to what my studio offers. Uniqueness is definitely something you will find at Innergy Studio. At Innergy, you can take a class, get your eyebrows waxed, get a facial or a massage, buy gifts for just about everyone on your list from candles, lotions, teas, smoothies, and more. Don’t forget to check out their trendy logo apparel! “I like to think of my studio as a pilates and yoga spa,” states Mrs. Pridmore.

When you walk into the lobby of the studio, you will instantly become refreshed by the light scents of the candles, at home spa treatments and natural skincare products that are available for purchase in the lobby. Students seem to feel a sense of comfort and tranquility at Innergy. My classes are designed to give that personal touch. I know every one of my students names, and it will always remain that way. I do not pile in large amounts of students into my classes. My absolute maximum in a class is 15. This allows me to focus on the precision of each students movement and to make sure that they are properly positioned right down to their fingertips. This is to allow the most benefit of the precise pilates and yoga movements

Holding many certifications, Mrs. Pridmore is certified through NESTA (National Endurance and Sports Trainers Association) in both Pilates and Yoga. She also has a background as a nurse, which also gives her students a sense of comfort. Soon after Jennifer opened the studio, she hired another instructor, who trained through Jennifer and she also became certified with NESTA. There are currently 3 apprentices training to become pilates and yoga instructors at Innergy. Jennifer is hoping to certify the apprentices by the studios 1 year anniversary as well as add on 1 more classroom and 2 spa tanning rooms this August 2006.

Offering Pilates and Yoga classes for all ages and abilities. All classes are taught in 6-week sessions. This allows the busy adult to commit to 6 weeks of classes, and get the most out of their classes by sticking to a routine that works best with their schedule. Offering both pilates and yoga classes 6 days per week, there is something to suit just about everyones schedule.

Exciting new pilates and yoga classes this summer will include: Legs and Gleuts class, 6- pack abs class, and cardiogalates (yoga and pilates kicked up a notch with cardio) class. All of these classes will focus on pilates and yoga movements that work most effectively for that specific muscle group. Also, a Complete Fitness Boot Camp is offered. This camp consists of pilates and yoga movements, along with basic cardio movements. Lasting 6 weeks, like the pilates and yoga classes, students that enlist in the Boot Camp will find faster results due to the level of intensity. The focus in Boot Camp is to challenge your body through the pilates core conditioning, yoga stretches and basic, but intense cardiovascular movements Jennifer also mentioned that the Boot Camp is for all fitness levels. Modifications can be made to accommodate previous injuries, knee, back and ankle issues, etc.

In addition to pilates and yoga classes, the studio offers massage and reflexology services, spa treatments, natural manicures and pedicures, waxing, relaxing spa tanning, and has a supervised playroom for children while the parent takes a class. Offering the playroom to my students is one benefit that I had to offer. As a mother of 2 young daughters, I know what it is like to want to take a class, and do something for yourself, but finding someone or somewhere to take care of your children that you can trust can be somewhat of a challenge. The playroom is staffed with caring, patient caregivers that play with children during the 45 minute or 1 hour class. This allows the mom to relax and enjoy her time, knowing that her child is right down the hall, having fun, too! The children love to come to the playroom where they sing, make crafts, play dress up, watch movies and eat healthy snacks.

Upcoming events at the studio will include: Summer classes will start May 15th and will run through August 5th. Registration is going on now. Call the studio to sign up. All classes must be preregistered for. Saturday June 24th, Consignment sale and Business Expo to be held at the studio. This event is to benefit the Breast Cancer 3-day walk that will be held in Atlanta October 20 22nd 2006. Jennifer, along with her Office Manager, Joelle are participating in the 3-day walk in support of a close friend of Joelle, who is battling breast cancer. Spa Princess Camp is going to be offered for 2 weeks this summer at Innergy. June 12 16 and July 17 21. Offered for girls ages 5 and up. Activities will include: facials manicures, pedicures, princess games, princess crafts, healthy snacks will all be provided. There is a full day and half day option. Please call to register.

The studio also offers group events such as relaxation retreats, self-defense classes, and “girls night out” which includes, dinner, yoga, pedicures and manicures.

Spa Princess parties are the latest hit at Innergy. Offered for girls starting at age 4. There are many packages to choose from including “me and my girl” where each guest brings their favorite doll, and makes a friendship bracelet for the doll and the party guest, mini cupcakes are even provided for the doll, “princess or queen for a day” Prices are very reasonable to fit any budget. The Spa Princess party is one that every girl should experience. Activities at the party can include crafts, such as jewelry making, manicures and pedicures, facials, dancing, games, and more. There are many additional items that the parents can choose to customize the party to make it exactly what their princess would like. According to the Winter 2007 issue of S3 Magazine, “Pilates is now a viable option in the TCI.” Lynda Lippin, recognized as one of the top Pilates trainers in the world, is teaching Pilates Mat, Ball, and Pilates equipment classes and private trainings at Bodies In Motion Gym at the Graceway Sports Center.

The original “core strengthening” Pilates method of exercise was developed in the early 1900s by Joseph Pilates, a German national who believed everyone should exercise, no matter how old or injured. He stated, “You are only as old as your spine.” Pilates came up with idea of using hospital bed springs to exercise injured soldiers and internees when he was interned by the British as an “enemy alien” on the Isle of Man during WWI. Pilates then left Germany and brought his talents to New York in 1926 with the help of two of his clients, boxers Nat Fleischer and Max Schmelling.
